MASKS

Fresh out of college, in my first job as a photographer’s assistant I discovered a newmaterial, a liquid photographic emulsion that could be brushed on almost anything and then printed on. I think it is fair to assume that this material was intended to be used on a flat surface since up to that point all photographs were flat, but what if a photograph of a face could be printed on a three-dimensional life mask?

I discovered that it could, and so - fairly easily - won my first round of wrestling with the perceived limits of photography. As the struggle progressed it became more complex, yet it still remains quite interesting.
